Creationists: Believe What You Want

I don't mind debates, and I especially enjoy reading it when each side makes clear, concise points, but I am sick and tired of hearing creationists' bullshit arguments. I know they can do better, they just don't. Here's some common arguments and why they suck:

"... atheists believe ..."
No, stop it. Any argument that contains that is pure bullshit. Atheism is the lack of belief in god, not the belief that god doesn't exit. Furthermore atheists can't be categorized like christians can; their beliefs are not uniform and are not based on just a few books. Atheists beliefs vary on how we came to be, stances on abortion, etc.

"prove god doesn't exit"
Again, no. The burden of proof is, and always has been, on the one making the accusation or assumption. If you assume god exists, you present information to prove it. If you believe evolution is how we came to be, present the information to prove it. A good example would be our courts. We don't randomly haul people into the courtroom and tell them, "prove you're innocent or you're guilty," so why should that be a valid argument for anything else?

"evolution is just a theory"
So is gravity, capillary action, and many other widely accepted concepts. A theory is as good as it gets for science, and it's definition in the science world is nowhere close the the common meaning that we use in everyday speech. The word theory is not used to describe something in the realm of science without great caution.

"evolution has no [facts, bone records, known examples]"
Evolution has mounds upon mounds of data and tangible evidence that back it. Stop having evolution-bashing conversations with your priest or friends that don't bother to do the research either and instead read a scientific journal. There are numerous bone records, and despite popular christian accusations, very few gaps in between them. A great example of evolution is bacteria. When we first started to use penicillin it was very effective against almost all bacteria. But the bacteria that could resist the antibiotics were able to reproduce themselves while the bacteria that didn't died off. Because of that only antibiotic-resistant bacteria survives and thus we have bacteria that can't be killed by today's medicine.

"well then why do monkey still exist"
Monkey evolved from great apes, as did we. Remember, evolution is caused by the stronger genome prevailing over the weaker (with respect to the environment around).

"scientists can't explain it so god did it"
Just because scientists don't have an explanation for something doesn't mean that a supernatural being did it. If forensic scientists can't figure out how someone died it doesn't mean god did it, does it?

"If the universe wasn't created by god then how did everything get here?"
Please don't assume there are only two options just because they are the only ones apparent at the moment. Also, see the above point.

"You can't have morals if you're an atheist"
Fuck off, there were morals before modern (respectively) religions so why can't there be after?

These are the worst arguments I could find, but feel free to point out some others. And yes, I'm an atheist.

10 Reasons Gay Mariage Should Be Banned

1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5) Straight marriage would be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

CP Porn corrupts no one. At it’s worst it glorifies sex and increases standards. I’ll agree with no sex with interns and no cheating on your wife, but ages don’t matter when you hit your 20’s.

CP Vietnam was when we sent troops to some country most people hadn’t even heard of for absolutely no reason (Iraq, anyone?). Kent State was our country’s military executing it’s own citizens. I hate to call you unpatriotic, but…

CP Prisoners do get schooling in prison, and I very readily believe that they shouldn’t be able to.

CP A fetus, by standard definition, isn’t alive and therefore can’t be killed. You fail to account for the pain and thought that goes into deciding whether or not to have an abortion. And you’re right, I do disagree with capital punishment. An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

P You feel that banning smoking in public indoor places limits your constitutional rights.
CP Smoking should be banned in public in general, and I’ve never heard any democrat or republican I’ve ever talked to mention feeling oppressed by anti-smoking laws.

CP Okay… this is just something the author pulled out of his ass. First off, being convicted of anything doesn’t infringe on anyone’s rights (except for the recent elimination of habeas corpus). You don’t explain what charge one would be committing treason under. Our president has committed treason several times.

CP No, no I don’t. Alcoholics got that way by their own stupidity. It’s stupid that our society makes it seem like alcoholics have no power over the “disease,” and it perpetuates the problem.

CP It’s common knowledge, and has been for years, that destroying a part of an ecosystem will destroy the entire thing. Eliminate the owl, there’s an over abundance of rodents. Then you’d bitch about the amount of rats running around.

CP Tax hikes aren’t bad. Tax hikes are required by the fluctuations of our economy, as are tax deductions. In all reality the government should spend less than it takes in. That extra money could be put toward our debt and perhaps to competently help a disaster zone like hurricane Katrina’s aftermath.

P You've ever argued that with just one more year of welfare that person will turn it around and get off drugs.
CP Welfare is a good idea in theory, but too many people abuse it. Much like rich republicans abusing the tax code.

P You think Lennon was a brilliant social commentator.
CP Which Lennon? The one from the Beatles? Be more specific.

P You keep count of how many people you know in each racial or ethnic category.
CP As I said before, and what most republicans seem to not understand, diversity is not based on skin color.

P You believe our government must do it because everyone in Europe does.
CP A lot of what we’ve progressed to is from the U.S. following suit with Europe, and we’ve grown as a country because of it. Is national healthcare, superior education systems, and a generally more aware public really that bad?

P After looking at your pay stub you can still say, "America is undertaxed."
CP America is overtaxed. If less money went to our military budget and more to other portions of it we’d be fine on a few hundred billion less in taxes. Bush prefers to tax less and spend more.

Most of the reasons listed here are stereotypes. I don't mind stereotypes, but ones that are untrue for a majority of the population they're describing are no longer stereotypes. They're outright lies.

Arab is Not a Synonym for Terrorist

It seems an exorbitant amount of Americans believe that if someone is from the middle east, an arab, and/or a muslim that they're involved in terrorist plots. People who use logic know that that's not true.

This picture is wrong on many counts, but I won't get into that. Look at the last line. Basically this picture makes the assumption that if someone burns a flag that they're a terrorist. Retarded enough, and the "asshole" part makes it just a little bit more so.
Burning a flag is done in other countries (and ours as well) to signfy dissatisfaction with the policies of the current administration. Expressing disagreement about something is not grounds for being labeled a terrorist. Period.
Also people don't catch on fire because they are an asshole, people catch on fire because they're stupid with fire. Even people who label others as terrorists for no apparent reason know that much.

Couldn't Pass This Up

Unlike most people that read only the news that fits around their beliefs I read both the left and right wing ~~propoganda~~ news. I stumbled upon this gem of an article on a republican website. Here's why the author's wrong.

Point: First: Agree to oil drilling in Alaska so that our money will no longer be given to Islamic oil producing countries that are supporting terrorists and making nuclear bombs they boast will be used against us.
Counterpoint: Experts say there is only six months worth of oil in Alaska (based on current US consumption). Venezuela’s president offered to sell the US barrels of oil for $50 a piece, which would drop prices to two dollars a gallon. Venezuela has 5x the amount of oil as the Saudis, but Bush is in bed w/ the Saudis and turned down the offer.

Point: Second: Quit demanding those ersatz "civil liberties" that stop our government's ability to listen in on telephone calls from Al Qaeda to sleeper cells located here planning our destruction.
Counterpoint: Nice use of vocabulary (ersatz). If the government wants to spy on its citizens then it should obtain a search warrant like the Constitution says to do. (Remember the ol’ 4th amendment that says no illegal search and seizure?) Why put quotes around civil liberties? Are the laws in our constitution trivial? What gives the Bush administration the right to ignore our laws?

Point: For me, the above would not constitute sacrifice since I believe that terrorists have no U.S. civil rights, and in time of war, we must spy on the enemy. But for liberals, this would be a great sacrifice on their behalf for the war effort.
Counterpoint: Spying on people without a warrant makes it far too easy to abuse the “privilege” and spy on political adversaries (much like a fascist country, Cuba?) Plus, as mentioned, it’s illegal (not a sacrifice). In short, GET A SEARCH WARRANT.

Point: For me, the aforementioned would not constitute sacrifice since I believe that even during peace- time we should drill in U.S. regions with abundant oil. After all, that's why God put it there -- to be used. Oil is not there for beauty's sake. But for liberals, it would constitute a sacrifice helpful to the war effort.
Counterpoint: For me, for me, is that all conservatives think about? Thought I’d make a completely irrelevant attack toward conservatives since that’s what you keep doing toward liberals in your editorial. As I aforementioned, we have no abundant regions of oil. We have six months worth in Alaska, and less elsewhere.
Do you remember the story of Adam and Eve where Eve eats the apple that was placed there for enticement? Maybe that’s what God did with oil, seeing as the use of it has been causing global warming and thus the slow destruction of our planet which "He" created for us.

Seems about here you run out of ideas for arguments (which, by the way, is when you’re supposed to end your essay) and start babbling a bunch bullshit. It’s kind of like listening to a senile person talk. Thought I’d still try to sort out some of your gibberish though.

Point: But liberals will not desist from their gods, even in face of war. The "environment" and full citizen- rights for even Afghan terrorists are not to be compromised. Political positions can't be sacrificed, for they are what makes a left liberal a liberal. Without these beliefs, liberals would loose their sense of self. It is their very personhood.
Counterpoint: That’s awfully nice of you; you didn’t call us liberals “godless,” a word conservatives like to attribute to liberals. Thank you, appreciate it. Seeing as the environment is what gives us and the all living creatures on our planet the ability to continue life, I deem it important enough to consider protecting, you don’t? Now you’re telling me that liberal’s political positions can’t be changed? I’ll analyze that. We’re told that Kerry is a flip-flopper (he changes his political position) and that Bush is better because he doesn’t change his position despite information stacked against the opinion. On top of that when Congress votes on a bill what do you see on CSPAN? All the republicans unilaterally vote one way whereas the democrats differ on their votes instead of upholding the party’s political positions. Did you pull that last sentence out of your ass?

Point: I know of the true sacrifices of young American soldiers around the world fighting jihadism and that of senior officers and their families. I'll bet that hardly any of those serving are left wing ideologues.
Counterpoint: Let’s see… the only place our troops are fighting wars are in Afghanistan and Iraq. Our troops in Afghanistan are fighting the Taliban (whom we put in power to begin with) and the war in Iraq was started over weapons of mass destruction (which they didn’t have). So basically you know of the sacrifices that our young soldiers have made… either because of the U.S’s past mistakes or for no reason at all. ‘Atta boy.

Point: Not to mention the excruciating sacrifice all of us daily make when listening to the never ending rants and carping against America on radio and TV by liberals who seem unable to shut up. Talk about noise pollution!
Counterpoint: Okay, a completely unrelated attack toward liberals. You’re absolutely right about all the liberals on TV if by liberals you mean people who use logic and facts to form an opinion. Other than those people there is only FOX “news.”

Point: When liberals talk of "sacrifice" what they mean is what they always mean and want -- all the time: Higher taxes. Redistribution of wealth. It's all a ruse, just another way to coerce the American people to institute left wing policies. So don't be snookered.
Counterpoint: Let me explain the economic policies of the left and right wing (I think both are wrong, btw). Republicans want to tax less and spend more (aka Bush’s plan) and democrats want to tax more and spend more. In the long term the former plan would cause bankruptcy (look at all the companies Bush ran into the ground) and the latter makes more sense. Ideally the best plan is to tax moderately and spend less then you take in (see: Clinton Administration). Uh oh, me, a liberal, not sticking to the liberal’s political position on economics. How strange. Democrats want to redistribute the wealth to the lower classes where as Republicans (especially Bush who has given the upper economic class the most tax cuts) support the trickle down theory which is supposed to help the poor. From the rising unemployment rate (which Bush continues to redefine to hide it) and the slowing economy are good indicators of how well the trickle-down effect works.

Point: In typical liberal fashion, liberals are always out front moralizing to we "unaanointed" plebians about the sacrifices we must make for the "common good" of which they are always exempt. Our chidren must be bused, while their children go to toney private schools. Our values must be sacrificed so as to institute their vision of how society should look and behave.
Counterpoint: I like this paragraph, replace liberal with conservative and you have a very evident truth.

Point: We, the United States, must "understand" terrorists and criminals, and the average Joe should have his money, that which he earned, redistributed to those constituencies liberals feel are worthy of the fruits of his hard work. Your money is not to be spent by you directly for your children but to causes liberals deem more important.
Counterpoint: You know what hate (what the KKK runs on) stems from? Fear caused my misunderstanding. We hate Muslims because they attacked us. But if you understand Muslims as a whole you’ll see that they disagree with the extremists actions (attacking innocents) more so than they disagree with our actions (invading countries for no apparent reason).
I like to call redistributing wealth community service or “helping each other.” Just in case you don’t belong to a church that’s something they like to advocate. Quit your bitching and cut back on materialistic wants and you’ll be fine.

Point: Islamic demonstrators holding up posters here and in Europe calling for Death to Westerners and announcing a soon-to-come Holocaust against Christians and Jews are defended as Free Speechers, and woe to the "unenlightened" among us who finds unacceptable such public calls for our death by the newly arrived living in our countries. But speech decrying homosexual marriage or warning of Islamic imperialism is labeled hate speech and "dangerous" to society.
The "common good" of which they now speak, their latest political buzz phrase, is not about doing what is necessary physically to protect the American people from jihadist threats, rather a phony, high sounding ideal for renewed social engineering, i.e., taking away your liberties and religious beliefs, unless Islamic ones. For the "religion of peace", we must show, they tell us, the utmost respect. Witness the reverence with which they've greeted the Iranian letter to President Bush teaching us what Jesus would have done and that now is the time for all in the world to ready themselves for the return of "the Muslim Prophet".
Counterpoint: There’s nothing to respond to there because once you peel away the bullshit, outright lies, and a feeble attempt to create eloquent sentences there’s no real point being made. Beyond that, Christians do the same thing but thinly veil it.

Point: The Left never changes its goal, and no matter how much we surrender, they will not be satisfied short of a European socialism, with themselves filling the top posts.
Counterpoint: Again with the LEFT not changing it’s goal. Talk about hypocritical. And what’s wrong with socialism? National healthcare and education systems far better than America’s? Damn socialism, damn it to hell. Conservatives are welcome to join the ranks of socialism but I doubt they’d want to be taken off their high horses.

Point: Every new situation is fodder for simply sneaking in their agenda. It will always be so, for they do not like the America we love. In fact, truth be told, they don't like our values. Worse, they don't like us. Perhaps that's why they don't sacrifice for us. After all, our French is so bad.
Counterpoint: Since when does disagreeing with the current policies of the Bush and his administration constitute hating or even disliking America and it’s people? And what the hell is with the french comment? I dislike the French for the same reason I dislike high profile republicans: arrogance.

If that's all Scion wants for a car design I can get them a whole work force for only a few cookies a day. Absolutely no thought went into the design.

Whereas most car companies concentrate on stylish designs while still being aerodynamic it seems Scion tried to stand out by specifically designing the car to resist motion and create as much air resistance as possible. All the while they concentrated on making the least imaginative style attainable.

So I saw some crazy religious lady on Fox News blabbering about how God hates fags and America. Then she went on to say the soldiers deserved to die. I'm sure anyone would agree that the woman is most likey legally retarded. The Fox correspondent rightfully attacked the woman for saying completely illogical and horrible things. I was surpised, to be honest, that Fox attacked a religous person that hates fags seeing as that's the kind of people they cater their news to.

However, one of Fox's high profile personalities, Ann Coulter, decided to promote a book by saying that the widows of 9/11 enjoyed their husband's deaths. What? That's on par with crazy lady's statements. I waited for Fox News to react to the situation. Make a statement, confront her on live television and ask her hard questions... something. But nothing, fucking nothing, happened; Fox treated it as non-existent.

So you're a New York Yankees Fan? People accuse you of being a fair weather fan, and you readily deny it. Bull... fucking... shit. I was watching the Yankees vs. Red Sox game this past Tuesday, the one where they got their ass handed to them in a 14-3 defeat, and I've got to say that it's the largest amount of evidence against New York fans. By the time the game was in the 8th-9th inning you could easily hear the cheers from the Boston fans (in Yankee Stadium mind you). Why? Because nearly all of the Yankees fans had left the stadium knowing there was no hope for a win.

Out of all the Major League Baseball parks, I've never seen one that empty... ever. Not even the Florida Marlins on a bad day. That's pathetic. Maybe if you guys buy even more Yankees shit so that Steinbrenner can buy his way ($208 million in players alone this year) in to the World Series sometime soon. It has been six years you know.

Cruise, Sit the Fuck Down

Apparently Tom Cruise has used his celebrity status to get an episode of South Park cancelled. The episode made fun of Scientology, and I think that it's the same episode that Chef's voice quit over. Apparently Cruise said he wouldn't promote Mission Impossible 3 if the episode aired. Since Viacom owns Paramount, the studio that made MI3, as well as Comedy Central, the episode was cancelled.

That's a really concrete "religion" isn't it? One that won't allow an animated show to make fun of them for fear of revealing the heap of bullshit that is Scientology. The "religion" basically allows people with more money than they can spend to give their income to the church to move up in the ranks in Scientology. That way the members can feel better about themselves and look down on others.

Chef Is A Little Bitch

The voice of South Park's Chef has recently quit, citing that he could no longer stomach making fun of religion.

Matt Stone, a co-creator of Comedy Central's South Park, said that Isaac Hayes had no problem making fun of religions until it came to Haye's religion of Scientology. Stone was quoted as saying, "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."

If Stone's being honest, which he most probably is, Hayes ought to devote all his time to his church and less time being a moron. Or learn some tolerance, whichever's easier.

I don't get the punchline of this cartoon... please explain it to me. Because it's from a convervative website, I'm guessing that somehow it's making fun of democrats. Frankly, drawing that cartoon was a waste of time.

On the homepage of the site that hosts this cartoon it says,

"Conservative and PC? Not at all... These cartoons are anything but PC. They are political and, indeed, correct. They also annoy liberals expecting PC cartoons!"

I might be annoyed by this cartoon, if it made sense, but instead I assume the cartoonist is moronic.

Saddam Is Fighting Back!

By starving himself. Instead of making it out to be a big deal, how about we leave the meals he refuses to eat in his cell. That way instead of giving him food day after day that he won't eat, he has the same meal and can decide when he's hungry enough to eat it. No waste of food, and a good way to break his spirit.

On a side note, why the hell are we letting him skip court dates? In all other court cases if you don't come to court it's a crime, and is treated that way. I'm sick and tired of people getting treated differently just because of "who they are." Everyone should be held to the law, and Saddam is no different.

Cheney is an idiot. By this time I'm sure everyone's heard that our vice president shot a man. Haven't heard about it? Go here to read about it. If anyone argues that it was just a hunting accident, they can suck my nuts. Turns out not only is he not a safe or trustworthy hunter, but he was also hunting without a bird hunting license. When someone goes out to hunt, know where to get a license and where your hunting partner is, moron. Is this man fit to be our vice president? Definitely not. I hate our current president, but Cheney would make a horrible replacement.

Apparently he got off with a warning for hunting without a license. He should be charged to the full extent of the law, how is he any different than you or me?

NBC Needs to Shut Up

I used to respect msnbc.com as a valid news site, until I came across an article of their's about the winter olympics. They claimed that the United States winter olympic ski team called themselves the best in the world. That's ridiculous. I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed the numerous NBC television commercials about how this was the best U.S. olympic team ever and that Bode Miller would lead us to victory. So what does NBC do when it turns out they were wrong? Place the blame and their words on the ski team! What kind of bullshit is that? NBC needs to be confronted and hit upside the head.
